COLUMBUS – The Clippers moved to within two games of International League West Division-leading Toledo after beating the Mud Hens, 6-5, Thursday night at Huntington Park.
Nellie Rodriguez hit a pair of big doubles, to help secure the 3-1 series victory for Columbus.
With two outs in the eighth and the score tied at 4-4, Rodriguez drove a two-run double to left off Mud Hens’ reliever Drew VerHagen (2-1) to provide the Clippers with a 6-4 advantage.
Jon Edwards (1-1) allowed one run in the ninth to get the win for the Clippers who travel to Indianapolis for three games against the second-place Indians before the All-Star break.
