COLUMBUS – The Clippers were swept by Indianapolis in a doubleheader Tuesday at Huntington Park, falling 5-1 in the first game and 9-0 in the nightcap.
The Indians used a four-run third inning in Game 1 to run away as victors.
The second game remained scoreless until the fourth when two walks issued by Clippers reliever Jeff Johnson set up a two-run double by Jason Rogers. The Indians padded their lead in the fifth, scoring seven times while sending 13 batters to the plate.
The Clippers could only scrape together seven hits during the two games while stranding 13 baserunners.
Indianapolis banged out 21 hits off Clippers pitching.
Johnson (1-1) took the loss in Game 1 while starter Ryan Merritt (3-4) was saddled with the loss in Game 2 after giving up five runs on nine hits.
The Clippers and Indians continue their five-game set with game four Wednesday night at Huntington Park.
