Clippers knocked out of playoff contention

COLUMBUS – The Toledo Mud Hens scored two runs in the eighth inning to beat the Clipper 7-6 at Huntington Park and eliminate Columbus from the race for the International League West Division.

Even though they lost to Louisville, the Indianapolis Indians maintained a 7-game lead over the Clippers with six games remaining on the regular-season schedule.

There were five lead changes in the game, but Toledo’s two runs in the eighth, when Omar Infante drove in a run on a single and Efren Navarro forced home a run on a bases-loaded walk, gave the Mud Hens the lead for good.

Bruce Rondon (2-1) got the win for Toledo while Louis Head (3-2) took the loss for Columbus.

The two teams play the third game of their four-game series at 6;35 Wednesday night.
