TOLEDO – The Clippers completed a four-game sweep of Toledo Sunday, blanking the Mud Hens, 3-0 behind a solid start by righty Danny Salazar.
Salazar, (1-1), on rehab for the Cleveland Indians, racked up nine strikeouts during his six innings of work.
For the second straight night, the Clippers prevented the Hens from crossing the plate even once.
Columbus got on the scoreboard in the fifth on a Josh Wilson solo shot that just barely cleared the left field wall.
A pair of miscues in the seventh allowed the other two runs to score. A grounder by Wilson that Juan Perez could not handle put a runner on second and Austin Jackson’s single scored Wilson to make it 2-0. Daniel Robertson stole third and scored on a passed ball by catcher Bryan Holaday to make it 3-0.
The four-game sweep, combined with two losses by Indianapolis, allowed Columbus to narrow the gap between themselves and the International League West-leading Indians to 1 1/2 games.
The Clippers return to Huntington Park Monday to host Buffalo.
