Clippers win playoff opener, 5-2

COLUMBUS – The Clippers began the postseason tonight, opening up round one Governors’ Cup playoffs with a 5-2 victory, taking a one game lead in the series over Norfolk.

Audy Ciriaco brought home the first two runs of the game on a line-drive single to left field in the 2nd inning and the Clippers added insurance runs in the 5th on base hits by Erik Gonzalez, Jesus Aguilar and Adam Moore.

Ryan Merritt pitched 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball to get the win. After the Tides touched Jeff Johnson for two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning, Carlos Marmol stepped in to record his first save of the playoffs.

Game two is Thursday in Norfolk at 6:35pm.
