Cold case murder

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Columbus police say a man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for a fatal shooting 24 years ago and has been sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison.

Police and court records say Anthony Taylor, 43, of Columbus entered the plea Monday in the Aug. 27, 1991, shooting of Jerry Watts. Calls to the office of Taylor’s attorney weren’t answered Monday evening.

Police say Watts, 39, was shot and killed when he answered a knock at his door. Police say it was a cold case for two decades, until investigators with the Latent Fingerprint Unit reviewed fingerprints from the scene and talked with a witness.

Taylor was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison.

Police didn’t address a potential motive for the shooting in their statement. A message seeking more information was left at police headquarters.
