COLUMBUS – Friday meant another morning in the deep freeze as low temperatures and high winds gripped Ohio and 29 other states in the northern U.S.
Dangerous wind chills of 20 to 30 below forecast in parts of the region, though not in central Ohio where the wind chills dropped below zero for just a short while despite temperatures in the single digits.
The arctic air is impacting donations into the Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles. The charity is down $25,000 from its goal and still needs to raise over $291,000, said area coordinator Maj. Debra Ashcraft.
She says the bell ringers report less foot traffic at the Army’s 80 red kettle retail locations.
To donate: Text CENTRALOH to 71777, donate online or mail a check to 966 E. Main Street, Columbus OH 43205
Forecasters say a storm will follow the frigid weather, bringing chances for snow, sleet and freezing rain across much of the country. Saturday’s daytime high in central Ohio is predicted to reach the 50s before plunging back into the mid-30s on Sunday
