Columbus #13 in population growth in 2014

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus and New York have something in common: They were the only cities outside the South and West to make the U.S. Census Bureau’s list of the fastest-growing among the nation’s 15 largest cities in 2014.

Columbus gained 12,421 people between 2013 and 2014, the 13th largest population gainer in the nation, and remained the 15th most populous city in the US with 835,957 residents.

Half of the 10 cities with the largest population gains were in Texas — Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Fort Worth – and the Lone Star State also had six of the top 13 fastest-growing cities by percentage, led by San Marcos, situated between Austin and San Antonio, which was the nation’s fastest-growing city for the third consecutive year. Its population climbed 7.9 percent between 2013 and 2014.

California now has three cities with 1 million or more people: Los Angeles, San Diego and, now, San Jose, which crossed the one million park last year.

New York remained the nation’s most populous city and gained more residents than any other city.
