Columbus enjoying cheap gas

COLUMBUS – The price of gasoline nationwide has declined from one week to the next for the first time this year and central Ohio motorists are among those enjoying the biggest benefit, according to the auto club AAA.

Monday’s nationwide average price is 3 cent less than last week, though 6 cents more than a month ago and 30 cents more than a year ago, according to a daily survey from the AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX, Inc.

The upward trend in pump prices began in December due to higher crude oil costs.

“But, in the past single week, oil prices have cooled off,” says oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg.

The price in Columbus — $2.33 a gallon – was the lowest since Jan. 22 and Ohio’s 8-cent drop in price was the 4th largest weekly decline in the nation.

Ohio is one of only six states to see a decline in prices from a month ago and, at $2.37, Ohio is selling the cheapest gas in the Great Lakes and the 7th cheapest in the country.
