Columbus is nation’s top hipster haunt

COLUMBUS – How can a neighborhood remain a hipster haven once it’s been labeled the Number One hipster neighborhood in the whole country? Doesn’t that automatically make it too mainstream?

A dilemma to ponder over a cup of artisanal coffee and a slice of avocado toast.

According to a report on Yahoo! Finance, the website Realtor.com and the social media site Yelp got together to decide which cities are the top 10 hipster real estate markets in America and the Clintonville neighborhood on the North Side of Columbus tops the list, beating out such trendy haunts as Seattle’s Capitol Hill and The Haight in San Francisco.

The editors credited the city’s art, music, theater, museums and culture with drawing millennials – defined as those from 22 to 34 years of age – to central Ohio, where they make up nearly 29 percent of the population.

The sites claim that the median home listing price in central Ohio is $269,455 and median household income is $44,007 a year.

Most of the neighborhoods on the list are highly sought after by millennials, with the millennials making up an average of 22 percent of the top ten markets.
