COLUMBUS – A Columbus police officer has been arrested on charges of producing child pornography.
Raymond Rose, 29, was in custody of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, according to a report on WBNS 10-TV.
In a statement, the City of Columbus said the officer was charged with illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and pandering obscenity involving a minor.
According to the statement, the Columbus Division of Police Internal Affairs Bureau was alerted by a family member of the minor girl involved and the bureau notified the division’s Special Victims Bureau, which brought in the Franklin County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Police Chief Thomas Quinlan says the division is cooperating fully with the investigation, which is being conducted by the sheriff’s office.
“When criminal activity is discovered, our duty is to investigate and pursue the appropriate action based on the evidence. The fact that it involves one of our own does not change that. The protection of children demands the highest level of priority and investigation. Regardless of who the accused is, we support every effort to ensure justice is done.” -Chief Thomas Quinlan
Rose will be placed on administrative leave with no arrest powers or firearm until the case is resolved, Quinlan said.
