COLUMBUS – The Columbus Division of Police is joining the movement among the nation’s law enforcement agencies to include therapy dogs as part of their policing duties.
Five therapy dogs and their human handlers are being trained to constitute the division’s Therapy Dog Unit and will be certified to provide comfort to victims of trauma.
Division officials say the unit will “help bring a greater level of compassion to officers’ every day duties.”
The dogs and their handlers will be introduced Monday at the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center on the Northeast Side.
