Officers say the man, whose name was not released Friday morning, charged them with a gun while his car was being impounded following a hit-skip incident, said police spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis.

The investigation of the hit-skip incident at Georgesville and Sullivant roads at approximately 8:30 p.m. led officers to a vehicle at 4667 Clare Drive believed to be involved, Alex-Bouzounis said.

While officers were in the process of impounding the vehicle, Alex-Bouzounis says they were approached by a man who was apparently the owner.

Upset about the vehicle being impounded, he went back inside an apartment but Alex-Bouzounis says he came back out at about 9:41 p.m., brandishing a handgun.

The man did not drop the gun when ordered to by two officers, so Alex-Bouzounis says one of the officers fired at the man, hitting him in the arm and torso.

He was taken to Mt. Carmel West Hospital where Alex-Bouzounis says his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

As in all police involved shootings, the incident will be investigated by the Critical Incident Response Team, made up of specially trained investigators from the Homicide Unit.

The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the Firearms/Police-Involved Death Review Board and senior division commanders.
