Columbus teachers schedule vote on contract offer

COLUMBUS – With a strike deadline looming, members of the union that represents teachers and other employees in the Columbus City Schools have scheduled a meeting Sunday where they will hear the union’s recommendations on the latest contract offer from the district.

The Columbus Education Association will meet at the Greater Columbus Convention Center to hear recommendations from their bargaining team after negotiations this week failed to produce an agreement.

Nearly 4,500 teachers, librarians, nurses, counselors, psychologists, and other workers in Ohio’s largest school district will be eligible to cast a vote on the union’s next steps.

The CEA issued a 10-day notice of its intent to strike when the existing contract expires at midnight if no new contract agreement is reached.

Teachers are scheduled to report to work on Monday and classes begin in the district on Wednesday.
