COLUMBUS – Columbus police are asking for help building a case against a man they say hes been bilking college students out of money by posing as an electronics store manager and promising discounted laptops.
Mark Hayes, 49 (right), targeted college students in the Polaris Mall area, claiming to be a manager at Best Buy and promising a buy-one-get-one deal on laptops, Burglary Unit detective Bruce Beard said. Beard says Hayes takes the cash but doesn’t provide the laptops.
Hayes has a long criminal record, according to police.
Family members told investigators they believe Hayes is now out of state, possibly in Georgia.
