COLUMBUS – Ohio now has more than 1,600 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 29 deaths.

Columbus police chief Tom Quinlan announced changes to work schedules for some division personnel after an officer tested positive for coronavirus.

A total of eight Columbus firefighters have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin says six of the firefighters who have tested positive are currently recovering at home and two have already recovered and are back at work, according to a report by WBNS 10-TV.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Sunday confirmed a staff member from the Marion Correctional Institution tested positive for COVID-19.

This employee last worked at the facility on March 24 and reported feeling symptoms the next day, department spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said.

The department has implemented measures to address the coronavirus outbreak, including limiting access to facilities to only necessary employees and contractors who are subject to a health screening before entering the facilities.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer is also now permitted within the facilities.
