DAYTON – A coroner’s report says cocaine and other drugs were found in the system of the man who killed nine people in Dayton on August 4.
Montgomery County Dr. Kent Harshbarger said during a Thursday news conference that a pipe device and a clear baggie carrying cocaine was found on the body of 24-year-old Connor Betts, who was killed by police after a 30-second rampage in the city’s Oregon entertainment district.
Tests also found evidence of antidepressants and alcohol, Harshbarger said.
“The assailant’s cavity blood sample was found to contain cocaine, alprazolam and ethanol,” he said.
Alprazolam is an anti-anxiety medication in the same family as Valium.
Also on Thursday, a U.S. magistrate judge ordered that a friend of the gunman who investigators say bought body armor and an ammunition magazine used in the shooting be held without bond.
Ethan Kollie’s attorneys wanted him released on house arrest after authorities said there’s no evidence he knew Betts was planning a mass shooting.
Kollie is charged with lying on a federal firearms form while buying a pistol not used in the attack. His defense attorneys had argued that Kollie had no role in the shooting and no prior record.
