Court upholds woman’s death sentence

COLUMBUS – The only woman on death row in Ohio will remain there.

The state’s top court affirmed Donna Roberts’s death sentence for her role in the murder of her ex-husband.

The Ohio Supreme Court voted 6-1 to uphold the death penalty handed down on her conviction on aggravated murder charges in early 2003 for killing her ex-husband in Warren.

The justices ruled that the state presented proof beyond a reasonable doubt to support the jury’s finding that Roberts aided and abetted the aggravated murder.

Additionally, the court ruled that despite her expressed sadness, she has never accepted responsibility.

This is the third time Roberts has appealed her case to the Ohio Supreme Court. The high court had to send the case back to trial court twice because of sentencing errors.

The case was argued before the court on Feb. 7th.
