Crew SC returns to MLS title game

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew SC is back in the MLS championship game for only the second time in the franchise’s 20-year history and the first time since 2008.

The Crew SC will host the Portland Timbers on Dec. 6 at MAPFRE Stadium (4:00 p.m. /ESPN, UniMas)

The Crew lost to NY 1-0 in 2nd leg of the Eastern Conf. semifinals, but outscored the Red Bulls 2-1 in the 2-game series.

Portland completed a 5-3 aggregate victory earlier Sunday with a 2-2 draw at FC Dallas.

Anatole Abang scored 3 minutes into second-half injury time and Bradley Wright-Phillips hit the post with a header 1 1/2 minutes later for the Red Bulls, who fell one step short of the MLS championship game for the second straight year.

The Crew will look to win their second MLS championship. They beat New York in Carson, California, seven years ago.
