Crew’s season ends with loss in conference semis

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Crew’s 2014 season came to an end with a 3-1 loss Sunday to New England in the MLS Eastern Conference semifinals at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

The Crew’s season featured a record of 14-10-10 in the regular season and the club’s first postseason berth in three years.

Midfielder Tony Tchani scored for the Crew in the second leg of the series, but Columbus fell to the second-seeded Revolution by a 3-1 final. The aggregate-goal series ended by final score of 7-3 in favor of the Revs.

Lee Nguyen, Jose Goncalves and Teal Bunbury scored for New England, which advanced to the Eastern Conference final against the fourth-seeded New York Red Bulls for the conference championship. The first leg of the two-game series is at New York on Nov. 23.

Ethan Finlay and Federico Higuain each recorded 11 goals and seven assists, one of four MLS duos to each record 11 goals for the season.

The Crew also set multiple attendance records, including the record for the most sellouts in one season at Crew Stadium (five) and the highest total attendance for a single season at Crew Stadium, surpassing the record from building’s inaugural year in 1999.
