Crimea crisis keeps gas price high

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Prices at the gas pump remain high as the work week begins in central Ohio, thanks to tension over the Crimean region of Ukraine.

The cost for a gallon of regular gas in Columbus was averaging $3.67 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That is 6 cents higher than a week ago and 20 cents more expensive than a month ago.

Analysts say the national average price has been rising due to ongoing seasonal maintenance at refineries and concerns over simmering tensions in the Ukraine.

The statewide average was $3.65, about 7 cents higher than last Monday and 31 cents higher than last month, but a few cents lower than last year at this time.

The national average Monday was about $3.52 per gallon, which is up 3 cents from last week, and 18 cents higher than a month ago.
