COLUMBUS – The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will be celebrating a trio of first birthdays in the next week, starting Wednesday with that of Amelia Gray, one of the three polar bear cubs born at the zoo last year and the only three polar bears born in a North American zoo in 2016.
Birthday activities for Amelia Gray begin at 10:30 a.m. and can be viewed in person or through Facebook. Birthday events for all three cubs continues through Nov. 14 on Facebook Live.

Anana, gave birth to the female cub who now weighs 289 pounds and enjoys playing with her mom, zoo officials said.
The name “Amelia Gray,” which means “defender” was chosen last spring during a public naming opportunity and symbolizes that the cub is a conservation protector for her species.
Anana’s own twin, Aurora, welcomed cubs Neva, a female whose name means “white snow,” and her twin brother Nuniq, whose name is a derivative of Nanuq, late father to all three cubs
Neva now weighs 245 pounds while her brother tips the scale at 385 pounds.
