COLUMBUS – About a half-dozen homes were damaged and at least six people were taken to a hospital to be treated for storm-related injuries when a tornado hit the Richland County town of Shelby Sunday.

The Richland County Emergency Management Agency reported several homes and businesses were damaged after an apparent tornado at about 4:00 p.m. as the storm that pummeled the South made its way to the Northeast. The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down.
The weather service issued tornado watches and warnings for a large part of Ohio, including the Columbus area, Sunday
Parts of Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia were also on alert as a severe storm destroyed homes, hospitalized people and caused at least eight fatalities.
