COLUMBUS – Columbus police say a man trying to collect on a Super Bowl bet became the victim of a murder Monday morning.

Martell Stewart, 25, went to Canonby Place around 9:47 a.m. Monday, where he was apparently meeting someone to collect on a debt, possibly related to the Super Bowl, homicide unit Sgt. Dave Sicilian said.
Officers found him lying on the ground between two parked vehicles in the parking lot between 793 and 787 Canonby Place, suffering from a gunshot wound, Sicilian said.
He was taken to Mount Carmel West Hospital where he died at approximately 10:27 a.m.
The investigation continues.
This is the eighth homicide in Columbus in 2017.
