Deadly shooting outside after-hours club

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man outside an East Side after-hours club early Saturday morning.

Marcus VanCleaf was found dead about 4:30 a.m. after officers responded to a 911 call, police said.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that police say the caller wouldn’t give her name. But she said she heard at least nine gunshots.

VanCleaf was found shot to death on the sidewalk just outside the back door of the club at 1323 E. Fulton Street.

Authorities have said in the past that after-hours clubs that operate from out-of-the-way storefronts or private homes aren’t breaking the law because they’re not selling alcohol. People pay to get in and bring their own.

This is the 53rd homicide of 2014 in Columbus.

Any persons with information are asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS.
