COLUMBUS – The deaths of two infants have been determined to be homicides, according to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office and Columbus police.
An autopsy performed on a 4-month-old boy who died at a home in the 100 block of Jefferson Avenue, on the East Side, on Monday, determined that Aaron Thorp died as a result of blunt force trauma and Melissa Thorp, 38, was charged with murder, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Homicide Unit said.
This was the 96th homicide of the year in Columbus.
A grand jury indicted a woman on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering in connection with the death of a 10-month-old child who was found in a bathtub on the Southwest Side on Aug. 30, Powell said.
Reign Nall was found not breathing and taken from a home in the 800 block of Greenfield Drive to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition where he died the next day, Powell said.
Dierra Smith was indicted on Sept. 7 on one count of involuntary manslaughter, one felony count of child endangering and three misdemeanor counts of child endangering, Powell said.
Reign Nall’s death was recorded as the 93rd homicide of the year.
