COLUMBUS – Police say a badly decomposed body of a man was found in an abandoned car on the Southeast Side Tuesday night after callers reported a foul odor.
UPDATE 4/23/21 9:00 a/.m.: The victim in this homicide has been identified as Tymar Whitsett, 23, who was reported missing on March 15.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the parking lot outside a condominium at 1585 Smith Road for a month and was producing a foul odor, according to Columbus police homicide detectives.
The officers, who arrived just before 9:10 p.m., were able to see what appeared to be an arm with a watch, under a blanket in the back seat of the car, police said.
Paramedics opened the silver Nissan Sentra with a Pennsylvania and found the man, whose name has not been released, “in advanced stages of decomposition,” detectives said.
The man was pronounced dead and his body turned over to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office while the car was photographed by crime-scene technicians and impounded.
This is the 58th Homicide in Columbus in 2021.
