Delaware Co. outlet mall OK’ed

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Delaware County commissioners yesterday signed off on an agreement that clears the way for a 350,000-sqare-foot outlet mall in Berkshire Township.

The agreement to develop a 57-acre site at I-71 and U.S. Route 36/state Route 37, worked out between the county, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Columbus Outlets, LLC, Berkshire Township, and the Berkshire Landing New Community Authority, calls for a property tax exemption 75 percent of the costs of land and traffic improvements and a 10-year tax increment financing exemption while the developers have pledged a community development charge equal to 0.5 to 1 percent of all retail sales, according to a release from the office of the commissioners.

The Tanger/Simon Outlets mall is expected to generate an estimated $19.7 million in sales taxes for Delaware County during the 10 years following its opening in spring 2016, the commissioners said.

The developer has agreed to bear the cost of initial transportation public improvements and future costs while Delaware County appropriated $8 million to assist with the costs of the improvements and a pledge of future funding from the Community Authority, the commissioners said.
