DeWine announces pandemic grants, denounces threats

COLUMBUS (AP) — Governor Mike DeWine and GOP House and Senate leaders have announced $419.5 million in aid to individuals and businesses struggling from the economic strain of the coronavirus.

The money includes grants to bars and restaurants, help for low-income renters, assistance for arts and nonprofit organizations, and aid for colleges and universities.

Friday’s announcement came as the state reported a record-high number of coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day.

DeWine also said he didn’t have details of an alleged kidnapping plot by people upset about his coronavirus actions.

The governor said efforts to overthrow governments are wrong and should be denounced.

The state reported 195,806 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 Saturday, an increase of 2,858, the fourth day in a row of record-high new cases. There have been 5,206 deaths since the onset of the pandemic seven months ago.

The number of Ohioans hospitalized with COVID-19 increased by 140 to 18,006. There were 32,856 active cases, 1,513 more than Friday.
