COLUMBUS – It isn’t a typical day at the Ohio State Fair.
The fair’s Sensory-Friendly Morning Presented by White Castle, scheduled for- 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, is intended to provide a welcoming atmosphere for fairgoers who are on the autism spectrum or live with other sensory issues.
Lights will be lowered and sound systems turned down so those fair visitors can ride rides or stroll the midway with no flashing lights or pounding music.
The special day is the brainchild of the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence, which also offers fairgoers a “quiet room” in the Ohio Building, a quiet, air-conditioned space that offers a variety of low-tech sensory supports, like fidget spinners.
