Discovery of body closes West Side freeway

COLUMBUS – A major interstate route from the West Side was shut down for several hours during the morning rush-hour Tuesday after a dead body was found.

At 7:36 a.m. Columbus police received multiple calls about a body on the left side of the roadway on the eastbound side of I-70 at W. Mound Street near Cooper Stadium, according to the division Twitter feed.

A victim was located and pronounced at scene.

All eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed at I-670 and the entrance ramps from W. Broad Street and Sullivant Avenue to eastbound I-70 were closed until shortly after 11:00 a.m.

Detectives from the Homicide and Accident Investigation units responded and the investigation is still underway.

No other information was immediately available from authorities.
