COLUMBUS – The number of homicides in Columbus this year now exceeds the previous record by 30 following a deadly stabbing incident on the Northeast Side Tuesday morning.
Two women were stabbed to death by a man police say also tried to take his own life.
The women were the 172nd and 173rd homicide victims of 2020 in Columbus. This is already the deadliest year in Columbus history, eclipsing 2017’s 143 homicides.
Officers responding on a reported stabbing at the Summit Park Apartments, 4401 Walford Street, at 5:05 a.m. found Mariah Hurt and Wanda Myricks suffering from stab wounds and Innocent Nshizirungu attempting to commit suicide, Homicide Unit Sgt. Eric Pilya said.
All three were transported to area hospitals where Hurt, 25, and Myricks, 43, died as a result of their injuries, Pilya said.
Nshizirungu was in critical condition and Pilya says, if he survives, he will be charged with the women’s murders.
