Driver in deadly Christmas Eve crash impaired by alcohol, marijuana

COLUMBUS – The Franklin County Sheriff’s office has confirmed that the driver blamed for a Christmas Eve crash on the Southwest Side that killed him and three others was impaired by alcohol and marijuana.

Just after 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 24, Loren Colombini, of Columbus, lost control of his Ford Explorer while eastbound on I-270 at US 62 near Grove City, crossed a grass median into oncoming traffic, and was hit by a Honda Civic carrying a family from the area, Sheriff Dallad Baldwin said.

James Music, 39, his wife, Suni, 41, were pronounced dead at Grant Medical Center and their 8-year-old daughter, Mylee, died the next morning, Baldwin said.

Colombini, 38, died at the scene.

Baldwin says the investigation determined that Colombini was “intoxicated by a combination of alcohol and marijuana” which caused the crash.

No one is criminally charged in the case because the driver at fault died, Baldwin said.
