Driver killed in apparent theft

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Franklin County sheriff’s detectives are looking for the SUV Paul Devitt was driving when he was murdered Tuesday during an apparent robbery.

The black Chevrolet Suburban (OH lic. # BLKCAR1) was nowhere to be found in the mobile home park where the 49-year-old limo driver was shot to death, Sheriff Zach Scott said.

Deputies found Devitt in the parking lot of the Hayden Heights Mobile Home Park, 5501 Cosgray Road in Washington Township, just after 7:30 Tuesday evening. Scott says he had been shot in the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives think Devitt was shot by whoever stole the 2007 Suburban, Devitt’s wallet and phone, Scott said.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen the black Chevrolet Suburban (OH lic. # BLKCAR1) is asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 614-525-3351.
