Drum major coach to plead innocent to sex assault

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A drum major instructor for Ohio State University’s marching band who is accused of sexually assaulting a female student plans to plead not guilty.

Stewart Kitchen is suspected of assaulting an Ohio State student at his home on April 16.

Defense attorney Tom Hayes says Kitchen, 28, will plead not guilty at a hearing Wednesday as the charges are fought.

The indictment announced Tuesday by the Franklin County prosecutor’s office includes two counts each of rape and sexual battery. Kitchen also faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to comply with underage alcohol laws.

Court documents allege Kitchen sexually assaulted the 19-year-old woman in his bedroom after they walked to his Columbus house following drinks and he refused to return her to her home.
