Earth Day activities

COLUMBUS – Friday was Earth Day, officially, but the celebration of the planet continues into the weekend with several events scheduled for Saturday.

The official Branch Out Earth Day celebration (1:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m./Columbus Commons) features live music (The Ark Band, Forest & the Evergreens, Salty Caramels, Shazzbots and others), food trucks (Mixing Bowl Asian Grill, Aroma Ku, Paddy Wagon, Loops Food Truck, Cumberland Kettle Corn), beer from Great Lakes, mixed drinks from OYO, kids’ activities, including a climbing wall and crafts, and central Ohio green businesses and environmental organizations.

US Green Building Council, Central Ohio Chapter, is repairing a rain garden that serves to buffer runoff from the playground at the Evening Street Elementary School in Worthington.

Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries (FACT) will conduct their annual trash clean up and tree planting around Academy Park and Wolfe Park Saturday morning. The group‘s volunteers will plant trees, remove trash and clear out debris from the parks along the Alum Creek Greenway Trail, riverbank and nearby roadways.

Volunteers are being asked to help spread mulch in the Hilliard Tot Lot, 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive, and to stay for a free celebration at the Community Center.
