Ebola call a hoax

COLUMBUS, Ohio – As if to illustrate how seriously the Ebola scare is being taken in Ohio, Columbus Public Health, police and fire units responded in protective gear to a home on the Southeast Side last night, only to discover the caller reporting Ebola symptoms had lied

The home at 865 S. Champion Avenue was the scene of a turnout by emergency personnel at approximately 9:00 p.m. Thursday night, police said.

Columbus Public Health officials posted on social media sites that the call was a fake.

“An Ebola hoax drove tens of Columbus Public Health, Columbus Fire and Columbus Division of Police responders to protect our residents in the late hours. Valuable resources responded to protect the public’s health,” the agency posted on its Facebook page.

Police had not announced early Friday whether charges would be filed against the woman.

Health officials and responders have been extra-vigilant since learning that a Texas nurse who was diagnosed with Ebola had visited Ohio.
