Escapee sought by Newark police

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Newark police are looking for an escapee from a probation facility in Athens who broke into a home in Newark and fought with the people who live there.

UPDATE: Chris Swonger was arrested by Newark Detectives and heath officers this morning after a brief foot chase. He is in the Licking County Justice Center charged with a Parole Violation and Aggravated Burglary.

Just before 4:25 a.m. Saturday, the residents of a home on Boner Street say Chris Swonger kicked in the door and fought with them, Newark Police Detective Sgt. Scott Snow said.

During the fight, a woman was cut with a knife. Snow says she was treated and released from the hospital.

Swonger, a Newark native, is reported to have escaped from the Southeast Ohio Probation Alternative Center in Athens, where he was serving time for aggravated drug possession, stole a car and drove to Newark, Snow said.

Swonger is described as 5’10”/ 150 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes.
