Suspect Wendell Louis Callahan, 35, was wounded during the fight with boyfriend Curtis Miller, 38.

Callahan was found by officers responding to the 1:19 a.m. call to the apartment of Erveena Hammonds in the 900 block of Atlantic Avenue, in the Continent Village Apartments off Busch Boulevard on the North Side.

Callahan had run outside after he was stabbed several times while fighting with Miller, police said. He was taken to an area hospital and was in critical condition but is expected to survive, said Sgt. Rich Weiner, a division spokesman.

Miller, Hammonds’ current boyfriend, was less seriously injured while fighting with Callahan. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and was later released.

Erveena Hammonds, 32, and her daughters, Anaesia Green, 10, and Breya Hammonds, 7, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Both girls were students at Salem Elementary on the North Side. Anaesia was in the fifth grade and Breya was in the first grade, according to Columbus City Schools. Staff there said the school principal was unavailable.
