Fatal hit-skip

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Galloway man who allegedly left the scene of a fatal accident in western Franklin County Saturday was reportedly due to appear in court Monday.

Rex Hamilton, 58, was driving his pickup truck, towing a car “dolly,” southbound on Amity Road just before 12:30 p.m. and failed to yield for a westbound motorcycle at U.S. route 40, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said.

The driver of the motorcycle lost control of the bike and Lena Clark, 38, of Galloway, who was a passenger on the bike, suffered fatal injuries, Scott said

The pickup fled the scene eastbound on U.S. 40 but deputies acting on a tip spoke to Hamilton at his nearby home and Scott says he admitted that he did not see the motorcycle at the stop sign. Hamilton’s 1985 Dodge pickup was located behind a building in his backyard, Scott said.

Hamilton was arrested and has been charged with “hit-skip” and tampering with evidence, Scott said.

Scott says neither occupant of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, Scott said.
