Fatal morotcycle crash

COLUMBUS – One person was killed in an accident involving two motorcycles and a pickup in southern Franklin County Monday afternoon, which shut down a major freeway interchange for much of the afternoon rush hour.

A 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2001 Honda motorcycle were southbound on Alum Creek Drive at approximately 2:48 p.m. when they both collided with a 2013 Ford F-550, which was pulling a trailer, as driver Justice Johnson, 18, of Mount Gilead, was turning northbound onto Alum Creek Drive from eastbound Rathmell Road, Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said.

Officers from the Obetz Police Department and deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with fire personnel from the Madison Township and Hamilton Township Fire Departments.

The driver of the Harley Davidson was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:02 p.m. while the driver of the other motorcycle was taken to OhioHealth to Grant Medical Center in stable condition, Baldwin said.

The names of the motorcyclists were withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

No other injuries were reported.

Alum Creek Drive and the exit ramps to the roadway from I-270 were closed for several hours during the investigation, which is continuing.
