Fatal shooting is year’s first homicide after drop in 2018

COLUMBUS – The year was less than seven hours old when Columbus police found themselves investigating 2019’s first murder.

Ahmed Nur Osman, 36, was found shot inside a home on Leigh Run Court, in the Wesliegh Run Townhomes complex on the Southwest Side, at approximately 6:21 a.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Terry McConnell of the Homicide Unit said.

He was pronounced dead at Doctor’s Hospital later.

Osman’s death came hours after the final homicide of 2018, a victim of an incident on Harrisburg Pike where two people were stabbed, one of them fatally, according to police.

The 103 homicides reported in 2018 was a 28 percent decline from the record 143 in 2017, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
