COLUMBUS – Columbus police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting almost on the doorstep of a Northeast Side elementary school.

Officers called to Penworth Drive, adjacent to Parkmoor Elementary School, at 6:38 p.m. Tuesday on a report that someone had been shot found Allen Palmer, shot multiple times, outside of a home in the 1700 block of Sugarmaple Drive, homicide unit Sgt. Stanley Latta said.
Allen, 21, was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m.
Latta says Devin Lee Douthitt was arrested several blocks away by patrol units with the assistance of the police helicopter.
The case remains under investigation.
This is the 53rd homicide in Columbus in 2017.
