COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State coach Urban Meyer says the players ejected from the Michigan game for fighting will not be suspended for the Big Ten championship game.
Meyer, who said Sunday that the entire melee was “unacceptable,” told reporters he would internally handle running back Deonte Wilson and offensive lineman Marcus Hall, who were kicked out of Saturday’s game when a skirmish broke out after a kickoff return in the second quarter.
Hall may have compounded flashing a familiar obscene gesture to fans as he left the field.
Meyer said Sunday that he will meet with athletic director Gene Smith and speak with Big Ten officials about the fight. Conference officials planned to look at the officials’ written report of the incident, review video and “take further action if needed,” according to conference spokesman Scott Chipman.
The second-ranked Buckeyes face No. 10 Michigan State this Saturday in Indianapolis (8:17 p.m./FOX).
Hall is hoping fans can forgive him. He issued a public apology yesterday for the gesture, which was caught on national television and replayed by several broadcast outlets.
