Flight risk

POWELL – A blue and gold macaw that flew away from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium during a training session last week has been returned to its perch there.

Staff captured the bird Tuesday afternoon about three miles from the zoo, thanks to Facebook.

Anne Schueren was walking her dog around noon Tuesday when she saw the bird and posted a photo on the social networking site, according to a report in The Columbus Dispatch.

Soon after, messages began appearing telling her that it was missing from the zoo. She called zoo officials, who sent staff to retrieve the bird.

Officials say the macaw was one of the birds featured in the zoo’s daily Animals on Safari show.
