Four arrested, fentanyl seized

COLUMBUS – Four people were arrested in a raid on an East Side home where federal agents also seized a large quantity of the synthetic opiate fentanyl, which is blamed for the majority of drug overdose deaths in Franklin County.

Tomas Sandoval, Alvaro Gasca-Cardoso, Salatiel Ramos-Rajos and Alexis Zazueta-Soto appeared in federal court Monday for initial appearances after being charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin, according to a release from the office of Benjamin Glassman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio

As part of an investigation into a large-scale, drug-trafficking organization, investigators executed a search warrant on Friday at a home on S. Napoleon Avenue on the East Side where they seized 10 kilograms of fentanyl, one kilogram of methamphetamine and 10 ounces of heroin.

This investigation is ongoing, Glassman’s office said.

The Franklin County Coroner credited with large drug seizures as one reason for a decline in overdose deaths in the first three months of this year.

State and local law enforcement agencies, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and police from Columbus, Upper Arlington, Westerville and Lancaster, participated in the investigation.
