Four dead in weekend homicides

COLUMBUS – A violent weekend in Columbus ended with four people dead in separate incidents, bringing the total number of homicides in the city so far in 2018 to 28.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., Columbus police officers were called to the 900 block of Rarig Avenue on the East Side on a reported shooting found Brent Carr lying on the sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Homicide Unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer said.

Carr, 36, died later at Grant Medical Center and Strayer says the preliminary investigation Carr may have been the victim of a robbery.

Carr was found about 30 minutes after a homicide on the West Side.

Two other men were killed in incidents Friday and Saturday.

UPDATE: 4/26/18 7:22 a.m.: The victim in the following case has been identified.

Jerry Hagwood, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene after being found inside an apartment in the 2000 block of W. Broad Street on the Hilltop at approximately 3:40 p.m. Saturday by officers called to check on the well-being of the person who lived there, investigators said.

Just after 11:00 Friday night, Todd Lancaster, 45, was found inside a home in the 4700 block of Larkhall Lane, on the Northeast Side, and died later at Grant Medical Center, homicide detectives said.

The investigations continue, however detectives say there were no suspects early Monday.
