Franklin County conducts terrorist event training

COLUMBUS – Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security will conduct a large-scale exercise Saturday, Aug. 28, simulating multiple terror attacks at various locations.

CORRECTION: This article has been edited to show the exercise is scheduled for Aug. 28, not Aug. 21 as mistakenly reported in an earlier version. We regret the error.

-THIS IS NOT A REAL-LIFE EVENT-

The Franklin County Complex Coordinated Terrorist Attack full-scale exercise will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and will involve several simulated incidents, complete with mock “victims” at multiple locations around central Ohio, including Newport Music Hall, Bolton Field the Anheuser-Busch brewery, Cardinal Health and Historic Crew Stadium.

-THIS IS ONLY A DRILL-

Franklin County was awarded $829,725 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to test and validate its response to an unfolding complex terrorist event.

Approximately 50 participating agencies will have their test their tactics, techniques and procedures for responding to a series of coordinated attacks.
