COLUMBUS – A portion of a highway near downtown Columbus was shut down overnight after police say a woman was shot in the face while riding in a vehicle and the suspect was hit by a vehicle trying to run away.
The shooting happened at 2:02 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of I-670 between I-70 and State Route 315. That stretch of freeway was shut down for about four hours during the investigation.
Heather Szymaszek, 41, was treated at a hospital for a single gunshot wound to the face, according to police.
John Zavatsky, of Hanover Township in southwestern Ohio, was hit by a passing vehicle while trying to flee the scene and was taken to the hospital, detectives said.
Zavatsky, 41, was charged with felonious assault.
Szymaszek and Zavatsky were both listed in stable condition, police said.
