COLUMBUS – Funeral services for an Ohio solider killed last month in Afghanistan will be held this Friday in Lancaster.

Spc. Joseph Collette, 29, was one of two soldiers killed March 22 during combat operations in Kunduz province.

Collette’s remains will be flown to Rickenbacker Airport at approximately 9:40 a.m. Wednesday and a procession will travel down U.S. Route 33 to Lancaster, according to a post on Lancaster Mayor David Scheffler’s Facebook page.

The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Faith Memorial Church on W. Fair Avenue. The final journey to Maple Grove cemetery will be Fair Avenue, Memorial Drive and then east on Main Street to the cemetery, Scheffler said.

Citizens and organizations plan to line the streets along the route of the procession on Memorial Drive, Main Street, Broad Street, Wheeling Street and Columbus Street to the Frank Smith Funeral Home, Scheffler said.

Collette was assigned to the 242nd Ordnance Battalion, 71st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group, based at Fort Carson, Colo.
